His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great was renowned as the Scholar King of the Land, possessing remarkable wisdom and expertise in water management. He seriously and profoundly studied and researched "water" matters, understanding the problems that arose, and graciously provided royal initiatives for managing Thailand's water resources from upstream to downstream areas.
Through His brilliance and expertise in natural resource and environmental management, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) presented the Agricola Medal for agricultural development to His Majesty the King on December 6, 1995, in recognition of His dedicated royal duties for the benefit and happiness of the Thai people, especially those engaged in agriculture, water conservation, and forest preservation. His work was guided by the principle of "supporting sustainable development for future security."
