World Ocean Day June 8th
Oceans and seas cover over 70% of our planet, serving as sources of food, protein, and oxygen. They are also home to countless marine species that help maintain the balance of our ecosystem. However, in recent years, our oceans have faced severe impacts from human activities, affecting both current and future generations.
Some of the major impacts include:
- Climate change: Greenhouse gas emissions have caused ocean temperatures to rise, leading to coral bleaching, changes in ocean currents, and more extreme weather conditions
- Overfishing: Commercial fishing has drastically reduced fish populations, threatening food security and marine ecosystems
- Habitat destruction: Coastal development, oil drilling, and other activities are destroying critical marine habitats such as coral reefs and mangroves
- Marine pollution: Plastic waste, chemicals, and sewage are contaminating marine ecosystems, causing harm to marine animals and human health
On this World Ocean Day, we invite everyone to join us in protecting our oceans and seas by:
- Reducing plastic use and increasing recycling
- Supporting sustainable fishing practices
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- Raising awareness among others about the importance of our oceans and seas
- Supporting environmentally-friendly businesses, such as using Aqueous Ozone (AO) for cleaning instead of chemicals. Aqueous Ozone Dispensers from Tersano have reduced plastic usage and implement recycling programs for every filter cartridge. They also help save water during cleaning and reduce chemical discharge into natural water sources.
Through our collective efforts, we can help protect our oceans and seas so that future generations can appreciate the beauty and abundance of our marine environments.
